Mr. Steve Akerman, 52 years old, is the founder and President of Horizontal Well Drillers.  Mr. Akerman began working in the Oklahoma oil fields when he was 16 years old and by the age of 18 he was a driller and supervising drilling operations when on duty at the rig.  By the age of 21 he was a pusher, with complete responsibility for drilling and completing oil and gas wells, whether or not present on the rig itself.  In 1977, Mr. Akerman went to work for Wilson Downhole as a consultant on the use of specialty down-hole fishing tools throughout the United States.  He has participated in drilling countless oil/gas wells. Mr. Akerman encountered the new technology of horizontal directional boring for pipelines as an independent consultant.  He left the oil fields in late 1993 to begin C&S Boring, where he pioneered many of the techniques and much of the equipment used in the horizontal boring industry today.  C&S Boring sales grew at the rate of approximately 300% per year to $7 million per month and 1,000 employees.  In early 1998, he sold C&S Boring to MasTec, Inc. (NYSE: MTZ).  He worked for MasTec Inc. for the next 18 months and grew the MasTec boring division sales to $16 million per month. Upon leaving MasTec, and while under the constraint of a 5 year non-compete agreement, Mr. Akerman went to work as a consultant for Sydney Water which is owned by the Australian national government.  Recognizing an opportunity, Mr. Akerman began business in Australia which he continued to operate until his non-compete agreement expired in 2003. Mr. Akerman returned to the United States in 2003 to begin Akerman Construction Co., which specializes in horizontal boring and pipeline construction. Mr. Akerman is recognized worldwide for his expertise in horizontal drilling.  He formed Horizontal Well Drillers to exploit a market which would benefit tremendously from directional drilling, but for which existing technology was not optimum.
